Finishing touches
Concealer for beginners: a clean finish around shimmer
Concealer can tidy the area around a shimmer eye without making the whole face feel heavily covered. Start with the spot you want to address, then use the smallest amount that helps.
Choose for the area, not just the shade name
For blemishes or small areas of uneven tone, a close match to your skin or foundation usually blends more quietly. For the under-eye area, check the shade against your face in daylight instead of automatically choosing the lightest option.
Texture matters too. Use a formula that feels comfortable where you apply it and follow its directions. One concealer does not have to cover every part of the face.
Do the shimmer first if you expect fallout
When learning to work with loose pigment, it can be easier to finish the eyes before perfecting the under-eye base. That gives you a chance to lift away stray shimmer without rubbing it into fresh concealer.
Pick up a little pigment and press, rather than sweep. Our application guide explains the placement.
Apply a small amount and blend the edges
- Place a tiny amount only where you want coverage.
- Let it settle according to the formula’s directions.
- Tap gently with a clean fingertip, sponge or brush.
- Blend outward at the edges while leaving coverage where needed.
- Check before adding a second thin layer.
You do not need a large triangle of product under every eye. Targeting the area you want to adjust gives you more control over the finish.
Set only where you need it
If you use powder, start with a light amount in the areas that tend to move. Too much powder can make an otherwise light base look heavier. Let the rest of the skin keep its natural variation.
Check the outer edge of your shimmer eye, tidy it gently and finish the rest of your makeup. For a softer overall look, try the everyday shimmer routine.
